Root Canals
Tooth infections can be incredibly painful and interfere with everyday activities like eating, speaking, and sleeping. When the root of a tooth becomes infected, it often requires a root canal procedure to clean out the canal and seal it off to protect the natural tooth. This clears up the infection, reduces pain, inflammation, and swelling, and prevents the spread of the infection to other teeth or parts of the body.
What to Expect from a Root Canal Procedure
A root canal procedure is performed in our dental offices in Nanaimo in a single appointment. Before beginning, our dental team will provide you with local anesthesia to numb the area surrounding the affected tooth. Our dentists will then drill a tiny hole through the tooth to reach the root canals. Next, we will clean out the roots and seal off the canal to prevent further damage and remove sensitivity. Finally, we will provide you with a dental crown to strengthen and protect the natural tooth.
Will a Root Canal Procedure Hurt?
Root canal procedures sound complex, but they are a common procedure that can be performed quite comfortably in our dental offices. During the process, our dentists will consistently check with you to ensure you are relaxed and ensure the anesthetic is working well. If required, additional anesthesia may be applied. If you are anxious or fearful about having a root canal procedure performed, please reach out to discuss whether sedation dentistry could be a good fit for you.
