What is TMD?

The temporomandibular joints (TMJ) of the jaw are incredibly useful in everyday life, allowing us to chew and speak easily. However, like any joint in the body, the TMJ is prone to issues ranging from pain and headaches to stiffness of the joint or joints. These issues are referred to as temporomandibular disorders (TMD).

How Do TMD Devices Work?

TMD devices work by positioning the mouth in such a way that the jaw muscles remain relaxed. Occlusal splints (also known as bite guards) are commonly used to achieve this. As an added benefit, they protect the teeth, which is essential if your TMD is caused by grinding or clenching your teeth.
